Minami
Uonuma City Beginning August 1, those with flu symptoms may go to the local medical facility directly for medical assistance. You must call ahead first to receive their guidance before going. The revised guidelines (as of Aug. 1, 2009) of the Ministry of Labor and Welfare, Niigata, for H1N1 flu patients (those with a fever, including suspected patients) has been changed as follows. The Call Center system is currently suspended. 【Change in the procedure for getting medical advice】 ○ Though those with flu symptoms have been instructed to call to a Call Center first, they are now instructed to contact their local hospital or clinic directly ○ Before going to the clinic or hospital you must call them, and receive instructions as to what doctor to see, and at what time to go. ○ During the consultation, be sure to wear a mask to prevent the spread of infection. ○ If you are unsure where to contact, please call the Minami Uonuma Health Center at 025-772-8142、between 8:30am and 5:15pm weekdays. (In case of an emergency during the night, weekends or holidays, call the Niigata Prefecture health center at 025-280-5200. (Note to IUJers: Call to the OSS x103 first for assistance. Japanese language skills are required when placing these calls) ○ For other assistance, call the city health department(777-3850 8:30am-5:15pm weekdays) 【Help Prevent the Spread of Infection】 ○ Flu-infected patients (including patients with suspected cases) are asked to stay in their homes to recuperate, going out only to receive medical consultation (Note to IUJers: you are instructed to go to your dormitory room or off campus residence, and call for assistance to OSS.) ○ If you have the following symptoms, wear a mask and take care not to spread the germs through coughing: Fever, cough, runny nose, nasal congestion, a sore throat and other symptoms. Receive medical attention early, after calling ahead. Be very careful not to spread the infection to others. Update to the IUJ Community May 18, 2009 H1N1 influenza cases in Japan have reached about 100, located in the Kobe/Osaka region, with the first domestically contract flu reported.? Please continue to exercise care and preventative measures.? Wash hands frequently, wear a mask if going to places with large groups of people that may have been exposed, reduce unneeded travel to areas where an out break has been reported, continue stocking up on non-perishable goods, and stay informed.? There is NO need for panic, just smart cautions.? If you have a fever and cough, do NOT go to the hospital, but return to your room and telephone for assistance.? Update to the IUJ Community May 1, 2009 We would like to provide information ahead of any emergency situation related to the Swine Influenza (Influenza H1N1).? Please read the information below, and keep it handy in the event of an emergency. Like any virus, this flu is spread by coughing, sneezing or by touching. To help with prevention and the to stop the spread of any infections please 1) Wash your hands more frequently than usual - No-soap disinfection spray that you can carry with you is also recommended - In Japanese you can ask for "Shodoku Eki" 2) Prepare a supply of masks that completely cover your nose and chin in case there is an outbreak in our area 3) Stock up slowly on food and water supplies - just buy a bit of extra food stocks over the next few weeks that will last: Instant noodles, canned goods, dried fruits, frozen vegetables, bottled water, etc.? JUST to be prepared. 4) Do not go directly to the hospital or a clinic for any conditions including accidents, flu-like or non-flu like symptoms unless it is a life or death situation.? Call first, or have someone call for you and get their OK to accept you. IF YOU THINK YOU ARE SICK with FLU SYMPTOMS If you have any symptoms, such as fever, dizziness, sneezing and coughing, stay in your room!? Do not go immediately to the hospital, and do not seek face-to-face contact.? Use your TELEPHONE to get support.? During the business hours, call OSS x103 and explain your symptoms.? We will help you to get proper instructions. During the upcoming holidays contact the Housekeeper between 9am and 5pm (x484) or the Guardman? between 5pm and 6am (x444) and explain your symptoms.? Wait in your room for further instructions to be given to you over the telephone.? If you cannot speak Japanese, CALL a Japanese speaking friend to get them to help you OVER the telephone.? If you cannot get direct help from campus, call the town’s call center (Japanese language needed) and request support and instructions: ?025-777-5231.? If communicating is a problem, one of the telephone services for health consultation support may be helpful.? These are noted in your Info Packet.? One is 03-5285-8088.? Be sure to let us know you are not well by email oss@iuj.ac.jp if we are not reachable. Temperature check support If you are not feeling well, we will need to know your temperature. For this current situation, we have prepared thermometers for your to borrow.? SEND A FRIEND to borrow one from the Housekeeper’s window area, check your temperature, thoroughly disinfect the thermometer and have a friend return it! Again, we provide this information now knowing that prevention and preparedness are always the best.? We are not in an emergency situation at this time. April 28, 2009 Information on Swine Influenza (IMPORTANT) As you know, the Swine Influenza has been greatly affecting areas in Mexico, The Americas and other countries.? WHO raised the alert level of the Pandemic to PHASE 4 today. ?In accordance with this alert, IUJ asks you to help prevent any possible spread of the swine influenza as follows. (1)???? Those who have plans to travel to Mexico where the most outbreaks have occurred, please reconsider the necessity of the trip. (2) Those who will go overseas (any destination), please submit the attached “Report of Contact Information during Trips” before you leave.? This information is used to keep in contact with you.?
